EMRE AROLAT

Founder Emre Arolat Architecture, Turkey

"per se"

In his lecture, Emre Arolat will critically evaluate the the popular trend where facades are often treated as mere "clothing" for buildings. He will explain how the facade emerges concurrently with the germination of the project's idea in EAA’s designs. Emre will also delve into how buildings aren't stand-alone entities: they interact, converse, and evolve with the community. In this regard, he will investigate how a building can influence and be influenced by societal and cultural interactions.

12.00 - 12.45 online lecture

THOMAS COLDEFY
Founding Partner Coldefy & Associés Architectes Urbanistes, France

"Sensitive architecture"

From XL to S, our work is confronted with ultra-urban environments, and supports human-sized cities. More than anything, we are fascinated by the intersection of natural and artificial systems.  We believe that architecture should serve the senses and allow for memorable experiences.Practicing sensitive architecture that is connected to nature and open to landscape. We envision buildings as desire for tranquility and as opportunities to escape a frenzied pace of living.

"ETFE Green, light, profitable"

Botanic ETFE architecture:TEXLON ETFE is an excellent material for architecture hosting plants. ETFE structure creates a thermal barrier and transfers a wide range of UV radiation necessary for photosynthesis.
Lightweight structures: Using ETFE, architects may create ultra-light designs that are impossible with other cladding materials.
The value created by ETFE solution: It’s possible to cover the existing open courtyard or atrium with an ETFE structure, resulting in enclosed, thermally insulated all-year-round.

BALÁZS CSAPÓ

Co-Founder Paragram Studio, Hungary

"Architecture Underground"

Case Studies: M3 reconstruction (9 inner city stations)

The reconstruction sought an architectural attitude which, on the one hand, would make the transport corridor accessible to all through functional improvements, while at the same time its contemporary architecture would display continuity with the original design principles. The methodology, based on variation repetition, draws a unified character of the line, while the autonomous appearance of each station facilitates underground orientation. Rail is the most sustainable form of transport within a city, but tunneling the metro means a heavy burden on the environment. This is why it was essential to make the stations accessible by installing inclined cable lifts with only minor modifications to the existing structures, while the overall renewal of the mechanical and electrical systems will bring significant energy savings. The reconstruction of the M3 metro line is one of the most important urban renewal projects in Budapest in the last decade.

RADU TEACĂ

Founder Radu Teaca Studio, Romania

"Locuind cu natura"

Case Studies: Stejarii Collection

Partner EStudio Herreros, Spain

"RE-ACTIVE BUILDING SKINS. New holistic facade concepts from design to construction"

Case Studies: Munch Museum Oslo,  Agora Bogota Convention Center, Staggered City

Agora Bogota stands as a showcase of environmentally friendly construction counting on a natural ventilation system that adapts to the local climate overcoming the conventional concept of mechanical ventilation. The new Munch Museum is conceived at passive house level with half the greenhouse gas emissions compared to a conventional building based on aspirations such as lightness, use of low-carbon concrete, recycled materials and applications of passive ventilation and cooling techniques. In both cases discussed here, the building skin acts as an active interface between exterior and interior creating a unique symbiosis between the buildings and the ecosystems they inhabit.
